Over the weekend a number of players from tennisMAD who had managed to qualify, took part in the finals of the FLYbe mini masters series. This event brought together the top flight mini tennis players from around the county to battle for some fantastic prizes which were up for grabs.
Peter John Moon and Scott Honey from the tennisMAD programme in Callington were both involved in the mix, as were Elliot Hamilton and Sam Hopper from the SDTC camp.
With many fantastic matches and a very high standard of tennis on display Elliot Hamilton did well to make the semis of the orange ball competition. Sam Hopper went one stage further and after playing some of the best tennis of his career to date beat some tough opponents to make the final where he was narrowly beaten in another epic battle.
Well done to all the 4 boys its great to see the future talent starting to make a mark on th county competitions already.
Lookout for all these 4 names in the future as we guarantee you will be hearing alot more about all of them.

The High 5 Sports Camps are running at Stover School from 2 – 5th April and the 10th – 13th April. The cost of a day is ONLY £19 and that’s from 8:30 – 5:30 or only £20 from 8:00 – 6:00pm

We now also have a daily shuttle running from SDTC, Ivybridge leaving at 8:30 and returning at 5:30 with the cost being the same as a Full Day, just £20

We have added in new sports and activities recently including the massively popular adventure team game; capture the flag, as well as trampolining, medic ball, orienteering and circus skills.

Also new for the Easter holidays we are taking the circus skills one stage further and have some great fancy dress and facepaints available so you can quite literally be clowning around whilst you learn to juggle, use a diablo, devil sticks or simple learn to spin plates!

Its not all about physical challenges at the camps though, we like mental challenges too. That’s why we have just bought another 3 chess boards so now with 5 boards available to use so we can run chess competitions as an option for those who are keen to challenge their minds as well as their bodies.

On Friday 13th April from 1:30 – 3:30pm we are also looking to offer for the very first time; Den Building and Survival skills which will be taking place at the Parke National Trust site nearby. Here a skilled park ranger will help you learn the skills required to build yourself a den for shelter, make a fire without the help of matches as well as teach you how to track animals, use nature as your compass and make water safe to drink. In other words after an afternoon at Parke you will have learnt the skills required to stay alive in the wild! This half day trip will cost an extra £5 p/p and there will be a minimum of 6 people required for it to take place.

We genuinley believe that the camps are getting better and better every time, as we listen to the feedback from you and try to develop and improve the camps after every holiday. We have more sports and activities on offer than ever before with options available to suit everyone’s tastes. Look out for rack climbing, abseiling and paint balling all coming soon.

If you haven’t already then why not book your place now, as spaces are limited and will be allocated on a firstcome first served basis. This is especially important if you want to access the daily shuttle service from SDTC, Ivybridge!

All the info and booking forms are available at our dedicated website www.high5sportscamps.co.uk so tell your friends, your neighbours, your cousins, your school mates and we hope to be seeing many of you at the camps over the Easter Break.

Any Questions then don’t hesitate to contact me direct on: ben.knight@tennis-mad.co.uk and I hope to see you at the camps soon.

Over the weekend of 17th and 18th March, a team of tennis coaches and local players will be raising money for Sport Relief by attempting to play continuous tennis for a 24-hour period. With the help of some of their keenest junior players and their families, coaches from tennisMAD are aiming to reach a target of at least £1,000 for Sport Relief, which could provide a village in Kenya with a clean water supply forever.

The event, which starts at 11am on Saturday 17th March and runs through until 11am on Sunday 18th March, is being held simultaneously at two of tennisMAD’s main coaching venues, The South Devon Tennis Centre, Ivybridge and the Callington Tennis Dome at Callington Community College.

Director and coach Ben Knight said, “The aim of the challenge is for continuous tennis to be played on one court throughout the entire 24 hours, so if a player stops for a break then another player must immediately step onto the court and play must continue. With this non-stop challenge being a very physically and mentally demanding one to complete, many players from the programme and also their families and friends have offered to come along, join in and help share the effort for some part of the event. Everyone who is taking part, whether it is for the whole 24 hours or just a part of the event, will be looking to raise as much sponsorship money as possible for this great cause. If anybody else would like to come along and take part in the event, or if you would just like to come and show your support and see the challenge take place, then spectators are welcome during the daylight hours of Saturday and Sunday.

The two venues are the team’s key sites, where players of all ages and abilities take advantage of the great facilities and coaching on offer to help develop their games. Both the centres have indoor and outdoor tennis courts, allowing them to offer tennis all year round. This makes them ideal locations from which to attempt this challenge.”

If anyone would like to make a donation towards this challenge then please visit the donations page at: https://my.sportrelief.com/sponsor/tennismarathon.

Thanks for your support and we hope to see you there over the weekend. If you can’t make it look out for all the pictures and write ups which will follow the event, along with the final totals for how much we have raised.

The new LTA Mini Tennis Awards Scheme has been set up to offer all children from 3 – 10 years a great platform to get them involved in the sport of tennis. With smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls LTA Mini Tennis, offers the perfect introduction to the sport, with all the fun and energy of the real thing.

There are four stages of LTA Mini Tennis; Tots, Red, Orange and Green, each with their own court size and type of ball. This tailored approach enables players to develop vital skills and techniques at an early age.

There is also the LTA Mini Tennis Rally Awards scheme, designed to help mini players learn in stages and take part in exciting exercises with regular rewards which encourage them to develop their tennis skills at a pace that suits them.
Many sports have a mini version including, football, rugby and cricket which are helping to develop young talent in appropriate learning environments.

tennisMAD are pleased to announce that they will be running these awards at all their venues from January 2012.

The first term of tennis in 2012 starts on Monday 9th January, with a number of new adult sessions planned and also the launch of the new LTA mini tennis awards scheme for all players under 10.
Also look out for the upcoming HIGH 5 Multi Sport Holiday Camps taking place at Stover School during February Half Term and throughout the year. We have made some exciting improvements to the camps for 2012, including a daily mini bus service to transport children from Ivybridge up to the site.
We will also be running a tennisathon event during sport relief in March so keep an eye out for more details on these and many other exciting events to follow soon.

We at tennisMAD were very excited to be able to host our first ever set of competitons down at Callington before Xmas. It was great to see so many of the young players from the programme taking their first steps into competition, especially so many of the Under 8 Red ball Players. Due to the popularity of the events look out for more events which will be taking place in the dome in 2012.
